literary analysis #3

Te Secret to Teen Power
Topics and/or Events
1) my book is about different ways that we should be going about life.  It makes you rethink the way your mind works because it teaches you the secrete about life.  Every single thing that has happened to you is because you made it happen.  Even if it was bad or good.  You sent off a certain energy and thought which brought the law of attraction in to place.  The law of attraction stated that you attract all the stuff that happens to you no matter whether its completely awsome or horrific.  So in all you need to always have a postive mind so that onlky good things come to you.  Dont doubt yourself underneath because thats not healthy because it brings you down.
2)I think Paul Harrington decided to write this book because he wants to put an effect on peoples lives. Not for bad but for good.  He wants people to have a new prespective on life and show them that they just need to live and be positive about everything.  Everything happens for a reason but it doesnt always have to be the reason that you think.  You can shape your life to how ever you want you just have to set your mind to it.
3)The reason I started to read this book is because my mom suggested it to me due to the fact that she has read The Secret and found it an amazing read which truely changed her for the better.  What appealed to me abouththis book is that it wasnt just a typical story book it actually taught you something that i wanted to learn.  It taught me about myself and I hadnt even gotten half way done.  What made me really want to keep reading this book is that it really got me thinking.  It had me thinking about it even when i wasnt reading the book.  it really sticks with you becuase it was really teaching me about how I should live my life.
4)I did find this book realistic.  Since there was no character I didnt really connect with a character but the author wrote the book so as you read itas like your the character because while you read your thinking about yourself.  It did have peoples stories but none of their stories did relate to me.  They were people going big in life and I dont do that.

People
1)The authors choices say a lot to me about my life and how im not taking full advantage of my well being.  The author chose to write this book so he can change that about people.  He wants people to know that they can do and be what they want they just have to really want it and just always have a positve mind and attitude. The tone of the story is very informational. This book really shows that the author is a very well informed and he is not timid at all.  He is eager to show what he knows and embrace his knowledge to the world.
2)There are no charcaters but there are little life stories of people.  One was Jim Carrey and it talked about how he was broke and living out of a van but he made himself a goal and had a positive attitude and wrote a 10 million doolar check to himself and he wanted to be able to cash it in in 5 years.  So 5 years later he was huge in hollywood and an amazing actor.  He got all of this because he set his mind to it and he stayed positive even at the worst of times.  Antother person was Shiri and she was a girl who had nothing going good in her life.  She was depressed, had bad grades, felt no one loved her, and lived a very unhealthy life style. She wanted change so she started to think positive and started believeing that she was loved and saying positve things like I can and I will.  By just saying things like this and putting a little effort in h er life she noticed her life was changing.  she was flipping her life around.  She was getting good grades and built a family of friends. It took work but she forced herself to think positve and in the end she was rewarded happiness.
3)What makes writing about people success so interesting is that it shows you that if they can do it why cant you.  It helps build a bit of confidence and believing in yourself so that you can go big and do something incredible because you have faith in yourself.  People need that little push and these people give them.

Style
1)The author does use symbolism which is used in fiction writing but he also did write in a journalistic way. He had a lot of different sections that had to do with different things in peoples life and he had a bunch of articles about people so we could hear their story.
2)The author uses lengthy descriptions of people because he wants you to really get to know them and hear their story.  This has an effect on the book because everyone in the story you really get to know.  even if you dont have a connection you still know all about what they represent and who they are.
3)The tools that the author uses in this book to show mood and tone are he uses a lot of postive language so you feel more upbeat while reading and not bored.  He also uses a lot of symbolism of people so you can feel really close to the people.

lit analysis # 2

Dont hurt Laurie
General
1)Laurie was the child of annabell who was beating her.  laurie and her mother divorced and annabel started to hate laurie due to the fact that she reminded her of her ex husband.  Annabell soon after had remarried  to a man named jack and he had to children who became lauries step brother and sister.  They are all blind to see that laurie is being abused because annabel does it in secrete.  She only does it when absolutly no one is arounds.  One day laurie got really hurt and cut her arm when her mom was beating her so her mother took her to the emergency room.  The doctors cleaned her up and put stitches in her arm but when they were about to leave the doctor started looking at her papers and relized thats shes been in there a lot and started to question how shees been getting hurt and her mother flippped and had a rage and they never went back to that hospital.  Laurie was always being beat by her mom.  She wasnt alloweed to have any firends because her mom didnt wasnt anyone finding out about her but eventually laurie found her self a friend George. He was crippled and couldnt do much but him and kaurie were the best of friends they would always hang out no matter what. they even found a secrete hiding spot that annabell couldnt find.  while they were hanging out they found a dog who had signs that he was abused and extremely hungary so laurie and george started to take care of him and eventually called him theirs.  This dog was one of the best things that hapeen to them but to laurie it was one of the worst.  george was getting really hurt and sick so he eventually had to be readmitted to the hospital and left laurie to be with her mother again.  her mother beat her and pushed her down the stairs and found her dog and took it away from her.  Her step brother and sister found out that laurie was being abused and would not stand for it so they took her to her grandmas house and told her everything so she let her stay there, but it wasnt soon after that anabwll took her away.  Jack didnt believe what was going on until one day he saw by walking in on annabell while she was in action so jack took laurie to his mothers house where she ended up living and her mother was put into a mental institution.
2)The theme of the novel would have to be stand up for yourelf even if it against your family.  You cant let people take advatage of you and most imortantly abuse you.
3)The authors tone of the story is more depressing because you feel so much simpothy towards laurie.  She gets abused and and shes always having to lie like when she went to the doctors or when people at school like her teacher woul adk her question about how she got urt. Annabell was a cruel person she puched her down the stair and then kicked her telling her to get up. Thats not the happiest thing to smile about.
4)Allusion-laurie would always picture and dream that her mother loved her and that she never did anything bad to her.
Dialouge-Their is a lot of talking between laurie and her step brother because he is one of the only ones that knows everything because laurie tells him.  Also his grandmother laurie ends up living with her because of all the talking and things that happened between her and her mother.
flashback- laurie does have flashbacks of a few times that her mother has been nice and has tried to change but nothing ever happened so laurie was just being put to devistation.
Hyperbole- annabell says that she isnt that bad about abusing laurie but everyone knows thats a lie.  she also say that laurie is a demon child and does everything wrong when laurie does everything she asks she just hurts her.
Irony- jack thinks that nothing is wrong in his house hold and that everything is sunshine and rainbows but when he leaves his house hold turns into a hell hole.
point of view- laurie and her mother have completely different point of views but the same at seeing one another as demons.

Characterization
1)two indirect characters are Annabell and jacks mother.  Annabell because while we read the strory we are revealed that she is a cruel mother. she abuses laurie and lies about it. she is two faced.  jacks mother because she is a sweet woman and all she tries to do is help laurie by letting her stay at her house to gwt away from laurie and eventually letting her live with her. two direct characters are laurie and jack.  laurie is a direct character because right from the beginning you know she is a young defensless girl who loves life when she living it and not being beaten.  shes scared most of the time but when she gets a chance she lives life to the fullest.  jack you can tell is just an older man who is just around and works all the time so he really isnt home but he loves his family very much and would do anything for them. The author uses both approaches because he wants you you to know some caracters right off the back butothers he wants you to be curious and wonder what their like so it makes you want to read more.
2)The authors syntax changes when he talks about the different characters.  When he talks about annabell its usually dark and cruel like when he is talking about her abusing laurie nothing is ever good about her.  she gets mad for stupid reasons and beats up on laurie like when she pushed her down the stairs.  When he talks about laurie he is more soft and playfull because she is still a young girl.
3)The protagonist is laurie and she is very dynamic because at the begining of the story she is a scared little girl and hates being around her mother but in the end she is a happy girl who isnt scared of anybody because she knows she is around people she loves and will never let anything bad happen to her.
4)After I was done reading this book I felt like I did get to know laurie because I felt her pain and I truely had sympothy for her.  I really felt for her when when her mother kept her enclosed in a world of hate. Her mom didnt let her talk to anyone yet alone ever do anything because she didnt want people to know her secrete.  that really does damage to a kid because they will have no social life and be to them selves.  a child is supposed to have fun and be outgoing and laurie was the opposite until her mother was sent away.
